What is Ice Fishing?

Ice Fishing is a live game show from Evolution, released in 2025 and built around a virtual money wheel with 53 segments. You bet on where the wheel will stop: two Leaf spots pay instantly, and three fish spots – Lil' Blues, Big Oranges and Huge Reds – take the round to a frozen lake, where the host reels in fish carrying multipliers of up to 500×.

A round runs fast – about 20 seconds on average. Bets go down during the betting window, random multipliers land on some segments, the wheel spins and the flapper at the top marks the winning segment. A Leaf result pays at once; a fish result opens the matching Bonus game.

There is no skill in the spin itself. The wheel is computer-generated and every result is random – no betting pattern changes where it stops. What players in the UK decide is which spots to back, how much to stake per round and when to stop. That is why an Ice Fishing demo session – watching live rounds before you bet – is worth a few minutes.

The Ice Fishing wheel

The 53 segments are split unevenly, and the split sets the odds of every bet:

  • 23 grey and 23 white leaf segments – the Leaf 1 and Leaf 2 bet spots, paid at 1:1;
  • 4 Lil' Blues segments;
  • 2 Big Oranges segments;
  • 1 Huge Reds segment.

Seven fish segments out of 53 means a Bonus game comes up on about one spin in seven or eight (13.2%).

How fair is Ice Fishing?

Ice Fishing is Evolution's first live title that relies solely on a random number generator. The host stands beside the wheel and runs the show, but the wheel is digital and its stops come from a certified RNG, so neither the host nor the studio can steer a result. Who stands behind the game and how to tell a genuine table from a copy is covered on the is Ice Fishing legit page.

A 500× Huge Reds fish with a 10× segment multiplier makes the top win.

RTP and volatility

Every bet spot in Ice Fishing has its own RTP. Leaf 1 and Leaf 2 return 97.10%: over a very long run, every £100 staked on a Leaf spot comes back as £97.10 on average. The fish spots return a little less – 95.69% for Lil' Blues, 95.60% for Big Oranges and 95.17% for Huge Reds. The table shows how often each spot wins and what it pays:

Bet spotSegmentsChance per spinPaysRTP
Leaf 1 or Leaf 223 each43.40%1:197.10%
Lil' Blues47.55%3× to 100×95.69%
Big Oranges23.77%4× to 200×95.60%
Huge Reds11.89%10× to 500×95.17%

Volatility follows from those numbers. A Leaf bet wins close to half the time and pays even money – low volatility. A Huge Reds bet wins about once in 53 spins but can pay hundreds of times the stake – high volatility, with long gaps between wins. One detail is easy to miss: at 1:1 alone, a 43.40% chance would return only about £86.80 per £100, and the random Leaf multipliers make up the rest of the 97.10%.

Multipliers and max win

When the betting window closes, Ice Fishing can drop multipliers on the wheel. On the Leaf side, one random segment may get 3×, 4×, 5×, 7× or 10×, which boosts the payout if the wheel stops there. On the fish side, every segment of one fish type may get 2×, 3×, 4×, 5×, 6×, 7×, 8× or 10×. If that fish then comes up, all fish multipliers in its Bonus game rise by the same factor before the fishing starts.

An example with round numbers: you stake £2 on Lil' Blues, the Lil' Blues segments receive 2× and the wheel stops on one of them. The host lands a fish worth 25×, doubled to 50×, and you are paid £100. The top win needs everything at once – a Huge Reds bet, a 10× segment multiplier and the 500× fish – which makes 5,000× the stake. The maximum win is £500,000 per round.

Bet limits

Stakes in Ice Fishing start at £0.10 and go up to £10,000 per round, and casinos may set their own limits within that range. With a round every 20 seconds, the stake matters more than it looks: £1 a round for an hour is about 180 bets, or £180 put through the wheel. How to size bets for a session is set out in the Ice Fishing strategy guide.

How to play Ice Fishing

A round of Ice Fishing follows the same four steps every time.

Step 1 – Place your bets

During the betting window, put chips on one or more spots: Leaf 1, Leaf 2, Lil' Blues, Big Oranges or Huge Reds. All Bonuses covers the three fish spots at once.

Step 2 – Watch the multipliers land

When betting closes, random multipliers appear on the wheel – one boosted Leaf segment and sometimes a whole fish type. Bets are locked by now.

Step 3 – Follow the spin

The wheel spins and stops under the flapper. Leaf 1 or Leaf 2 pays straight away at 1:1, or more if the segment carried a multiplier. A fish segment opens its Bonus game.

Step 4 – Go fishing in the Bonus game

The scene switches to an Arctic lake with fish swimming under the ice, each with a multiplier. The host reels one in slowly, and its final multiplier is revealed once it is out of the water. Every Bonus game pays the players who backed that fish. On a phone the steps are the same; the Ice Fishing app page shows the setup.

About Evolution

Evolution is the studio behind Ice Fishing and one of the best-known names in live casino. It builds live dealer tables and game shows, streams them from its own studios and supplies them to licensed online casinos, which add the tables to their lobbies. Ice Fishing is broadcast from Evolution's studio in Latvia, with several camera angles, live chat and a host who presents in English – easy to follow for players in the UK.

The stream is in HD, with an animated frozen lake, the sound of cracking ice and splashing water, and augmented-reality graphics that place the host beside a wheel that exists only on screen.

Other Evolution games

Ice Fishing builds on Evolution's money-wheel shows. Crazy Time is its closest relative, and Dream Catcher and Monopoly Live use the same idea of betting on where a wheel stops. Ice Fishing is the simpler and quicker of them: five bet spots, one type of bonus round and 20-second rounds.

Testing and certification

Evolution works with independent test labs, among them eCOGRA, iTech Labs, BMM Testlabs, NMi and Quinel. They check that a random number generator gives unpredictable results and that a game pays in line with its stated RTP – for Ice Fishing, the wheel, the multipliers and the fish.
